New Ways to Play Live: Co-op Battles and Teams in Roxxem

Hugo

A live game used to be every student for themselves. With Season 1, Roxxem's live games have three play styles: Individual, Teams and Co-op. You choose one on the first setup screen, and it works in all four games.

Co-op: the whole class against you

In Co-op, you're the boss. Your class plays together to bring your HP down to zero: every point a student scores is damage.

Setting it up

  1. Start a live game and choose Co-op on Choose Play Style.
  2. Pick the boss: Weak for a class still learning the words, Strong for a class that knows them, Epic for a class that nails it, or set the HP yourself.
  3. Start the game. The boss's HP is based on how many students are in the lobby when you press Start.

Your host screen shows the boss's HP bar draining as the class plays. When the HP hits zero, everyone sees Boss defeated! There's no podium at the end: the class wins or loses together.

Why it works in class

Co-op turns a competition into a shared goal. The students who answer fastest still matter, but so does every student who gets one more answer right, because every point counts toward the same HP bar. It's a good fit for a new song, a review day, or a class that tends to leave its quieter students behind on the leaderboard.

Try a Boss Battle Day: pick a song from Locotubre or FrancoManie, start with a Weak boss, and move up to Strong once the class beats it. Fire your teacher powers from the host screen to keep it interesting.

Teams

Teams splits your class into 2 to 10 teams, named after dishes in the language you're teaching. Each student plays their own game, and their score adds to their team's total. The highest total wins.

In the lobby you can:

  • change the number of teams;
  • Shuffle Teams for an even random split;
  • move any student to another team;
  • rename a team.

Late joiners go to the smallest team. Targeted powers always hit someone on another team, so nobody can sabotage their own side.
