Locotubre 2026 Recap: 13,662 Students, 22 Songs and One Champion
For a few weeks this fall, Spanish class got loud. Students argued over songs, checked the leaderboard between bells and asked for "one more round" of Whac-A-Word.
Locotubre is the Spanish song bracket created by Señor Ashby. Songs go head to head, students vote for their favorites, and on Roxxem they play song games to earn points for themselves, their class and their school. Locotubre has been on Roxxem since 2023.
Here's everything that happened.

Every game counted. A student's best score on each song and each game (Whac-A-Word, Vocab Harvest, Quiz Ninja and Sentence Snake) added up to their contest score. Picking the winner of a matchup earned a 10% bonus on that song.
The champion: Un Solo Corazón by Grupo Frontera
Un Solo Corazón by Grupo Frontera won Locotubre 2026, beating YA NO VUELVAS by La Konga, Luck Ra and Ke Personajes in the final.
All 22 songs started in eight first-round battles. The winner of each one moved on to the Elite 8.
From there:
- Elite 8: YA NO VUELVAS beat ALGO TÚ, EL MUNDO ES MÍO beat Solo Amigos, Un Solo Corazón beat Sube La Marea Remix and Volaré beat Ojos de Sol.
- Final 4: YA NO VUELVAS beat EL MUNDO ES MÍO and Un Solo Corazón beat Volaré.
- Final: Un Solo Corazón beat YA NO VUELVAS.
The bracket mixed global hits with songs some students may have been hearing for the first time, like Pachamama by Renata Flores and Gaucho Power by El Cuarteto de Nos. That mix is half the fun: a student might come in for Bad Bunny and leave humming a song from Paraguay.

Out of 13,662 players, TheBeardedBear finished on top with more than 190 million points.
Points like these come from replaying songs again and again to beat a personal best. That adds up to a lot of Spanish listening, reading and vocab practice.

Spanish 5, 7th hour (@soteloa) led all 415 classes with 68,723,020 points.
A special shoutout to Profe Baron at Brophy College Preparatory, who had six classes in the top 10.

Brophy College Preparatory took the top school spot out of 91, with an average of 22,343,001 points per class.
School rankings use the average score of each school's participating classes, so a school doesn't need dozens of classes to place.
Why a song bracket can work in Spanish class
October can be a tough stretch. The novelty of a new school year is gone and winter break still feels far away. A bracket gives students something to look forward to every day.
- Students choose. Voting gives them a say, and they might defend a song harder than any essay prompt.
- Repetition feels like a game. Replaying a song to beat a score means hearing the same vocab and structures many times over.
- Culture comes along for the ride. One bracket can bring in artists from Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and beyond.
- Prep stays light. Each Roxxem song comes with ready-to-play games, so the contest can fit into warm-ups, early finishers or a full class period.
